Wasteland Story packs over 200 weapons, 114 perks, 9 companions, and a hidden boss raid endgame into a 2D pixel side-scroller built by a single developer.

Lunarite Studio, the solo team behind Wasteland Story (full title Wasteland Story: Awakening), first released this post-apocalyptic 2D side-scroller action RPG on October 23, 2022. The Android build has reached version 26.01.28 after the 25.11.17 Total Rework that rebuilt combat, balance, perks, and the episodic story from the ground up. Heavily inspired by the Fallout series, the game runs a 6-attribute SPECIAL-style framework, real-time melee and gunplay, hunger/thirst survival layers, base building in a personal village, and a Nevada wasteland filled with humanoid raiders, mutated creatures, and machines. The app weighs around 895 MB, runs offline on Android 6.0+ at up to 120 FPS, and keeps every in-app purchase optional with zero forced ads.

Real-time combat and a 200+ weapon arsenal across nine categories

Wasteland Story drops the turn-based grid most post-apocalyptic RPGs lean on and runs fully real-time, side-scroller combat. You sprint, dodge, swap weapons mid-fight, and chain basic attacks into special attacks while ammo, durability, and stamina drain in the background. Weapons split into nine working categories, each with its own ammo type and combat role.

  • Pistols and SMGs: share Pistol Ammo, strong against soft targets, weakest against armored and shielded enemies. Dual pistols unlock a special attack that grants 5 seconds of invulnerability when paired with the Airplane Club companion.
  • Rifles and Sniper Rifles: use Rifle Ammo or Sniper Ammo. The Barrett M82A1 trades movement speed for heavy single-shot damage, while the WA2000 Sniper keeps a clean DPS and reload speed for hit-and-run play.
  • Shotguns and LMGs: Shotgun Ammo for AOE damage on tight groups, LMG fire for sustained crowd control before the magazine forces a long reload.
  • Bows and Crossbows: use Arrows and Bolts that you can recover after firing. Bows can rain arrows on a group via special attack, crossbows fire piercing shots that mow through a line of enemies.
  • Melee weapons (4 sub-types): blunt (Wasteland Hammer, Iron Hammer, Scrap Morningstar), bladed (Daedo, Orc Sword, Medieval Sword), spears with extended range and knockback, and brawler tools like the Tennis Racket that deflects projectiles.
  • Energy and Special weapons: Tasers, Flare guns, Flamethrowers, and Cryonators run on Oil and apply elemental effects (ignite, freeze, electrocute, poison). The Proton Gun does extra damage against undead enemies and reduces hit damage on non-undead, while the Zombinator turns human enemies into zombies fighting for you.

On top of the regular pool, nine Special Weapons drop at roughly 5% rates: Ghost Blade (sacrifices 20% current HP for bonus damage), Icicle Dagger (10% freeze chance on hit, 6-second cooldown, +100% damage to frozen targets), Lilith’s Bow (rains arrows on special attack), Mace of Malac, Medieval Sword, Mini Nuke (throwable), The Devil’s Revolver, Proton Gun, and Zombinator. Disassembling any special weapon hands over its blueprint, so a single drop turns into a permanent craft option at the workbench.

114 perks, 6 attributes, and 9 special abilities shape every build

The RPG layer is the deepest part of the game. You allocate points across 6 Core Attributes (Strength, Constitution, Charisma, and three more on the SPECIAL-style sheet), unlock 18 tiers of perks (with 4 perks per tier in season 1, soon moving to 5 per tier in season 2), and pick 9 Special Abilities that each carry their own 18-perk tree. Total perks count out at 114 for a fully built character.

Attributes and trait choice at level 1

Each attribute point loses effectiveness as you stack it (1 point gives roughly 0.1 in bonus, 10 points drops to 0.01 per extra point), so spreading points across multiple attributes pays better than dumping everything into one stat. Traits picked at character creation define the entire run. Genius gives +1 perk point and +3 attribute points on every third level (3, 6, 9…) plus 35% extra XP up to level 100. Strong Mind, Weak Body cuts physical damage by 20% and HP-per-level by 33% but grants +50% ammo gained and +2 component slots on guns. Tribal Warrior adds +15% melee damage, +5% damage vamp, and 5% damage reduction from larger units. Infamy farms scrap from humanoid elites, granting up to 5000 scrap per kill (10,000 from bosses) on a 60-second cooldown.

Late-game perk synergies

After spending 90 perk points, unused points start adding 30 physical and elemental defense each plus 0.05% damage per point, which makes Genius/Creator-style builds especially strong. Medical Experiment consumes 10% of your First Aid Kits (cap 100+) for a random buff: +100% crit for 5 seconds, 3 seconds invincibility, +50% attack speed for 5 seconds, or +75% Max HP for 8 seconds. Overloaded triggers when you carry more than 1000 ammo, consuming 2.5% of the excess per reload to grant up to +100% weapon damage for 7 seconds.

9 companions and how each one shifts the playstyle

You can summon one companion at a time, unless you buy the Man’s Best Friend package from the Cola Shop, which lets Doggy stay out alongside a second companion. Each companion brings a distinct buff that pushes the build in a clear direction.

  • Doggy: the only companion you can rename, occasionally brings random items, and grows infinitely strong through specific interactions, which makes it the highest-ceiling pick for long Nightmare runs.
  • Mando: a healer-shield support. Recovers 3% missing HP on nearby allies, 15% chance to grant a shield equal to 10% of healed target’s HP, and 15% chance to dispel all harmful effects. Triggers a self-revive at 25% HP with +50% damage, +75% attack speed, and defense penetration for 5 seconds.
  • Steve, the wandering mercenary: taunts enemies on attack for 3 seconds, recovers HP equal to 15% of player damage dealt, and kills by Steve grant +2.5% movement speed stacking until the end of combat.
  • White Horse Tribe huntress: 50% damage reduction from large units, deals +3% of target’s max HP on attacks against large units (2-second cooldown). Built for boss DPS.
  • Tribal Warrior companion: +15% melee damage, +5% damage vamp, 5% reduced damage from larger units. Pairs well with brawler and spear builds.
  • Airplane Club owner: on dual pistol special attack grants 5 seconds invulnerability and 2% of target’s max HP per hit (doubled against humanoids). A premium pick for pistol builds.

The remaining three companions unlock through episodic story choices, and most of them lock or unlock based on dialogue paths taken hours earlier, so build planning starts at character creation, not mid-run.

Survival layers: hunger, thirst, dynamic weather, and base building

Survival sits one layer below combat. You manage hunger and thirst meters, a day/night cycle that changes spawn behavior, and dynamic weather (rain, dust storms, radiation rain). The personal village acts as a base where you build crafting stations, gun benches, cooking pots, and storage. Disassembling weapons recovers Scrap, the core crafting currency, plus the original blueprint for Special weapons. Components attach to gear up to a cap of 5 per weapon and 10 per armor piece (10 weapon, 20 armor in Survival Mode), and rare random-stat components can re-roll an item’s rarity and stats.

Cooking, building, and gear repair all feed back into combat performance. Iron Hammer kills restore equipment durability, while gear above 90% durability hits harder. Engineering Wrench builds replace the special attack slot with a construction panel that lets you drop Twin Gun Turrets, Teleporters, Dispensers, and Electric Fences during fights, which turns survival prep into mid-combat utility.

Loot, enchantments, and the 500+ item randomization engine

Every run feels different because the loot system runs on stacked random layers: random spawns, 90+ enchantments, over 100 random prefixes, 41 Death Cards, and more than 500 base loot items. Enchanted gear can roll prefixes like Backstab Damage +190% with bleed-on-hit, or a Harvester roll that drops Souls on kills (Boss x3, Elite x1, Uber x5). Twenty Souls converts into 1 flat HP for the player, with no cap, so endgame builds can stack hundreds of bonus HP through farming.

Special components add deeper effects. The hook component pulls targets and inflicts bleed three times plus a 2-second stun. Throwable usables include smoke grenades (50% miss chance in an 8-second area), poison bombs (bleed plus 50% slow for 5 seconds), incendiary grenades, and EMP grenades that disable abilities for 5 seconds (stunning robots for 5 seconds and dealing 3% max HP bonus damage to ability users or machines).

Endgame depth: Nightmare, Ascendancy, hidden boss raids, and Challenger Mode

After the main episodes, three endgame systems extend the grind well past the credits. Nightmare level scales enemy stats and grants +5 attributes plus 1 perk point per 100 NM cleared. Ascendancy works as a mirror system with +10 attributes per level instead of +5, but XP gain drops by 67% and 1 Ascendancy level converts to roughly 0.012 normal levels, so reaching Ascendancy 100 takes hundreds of hours.

Hidden Boss Raids sit on top of regular bosses. Each boss in the main story unlocks a tougher hidden variant that drops exclusive blueprints. Challenger Mode (added in the Fall Update around version 26.01.11) introduces brutal short-form challenges with fixed loadouts. The Awakening Leaderboard and League System (introduced in 25.11.17) ranks Nightmare and Ascendancy clears across the player base, with weekly resets.

What’s new in version 26.01.28

Version 26.01.28 ships as the latest Android build from Lunarite Studio and continues the rolling Awakening update line. The recent changelog covers four headline additions, plus stability work.

  • Achievement and Title System: unlock permanent titles tied to milestones (Nightmare clears, boss kills, build experiments). Titles sit next to your character name on the Awakening Leaderboard.
  • Loot and Balance Overhaul: drop rates and prefix weighting reworked after community feedback on the 25.11.17 Total Rework. Special Weapon drop rate stays at roughly 5%, but mid-tier enchantments now appear earlier in the level curve.
  • Challenger Mode: short-form combat trials with fixed loadouts, designed for testing builds without grinding levels. Rewards rotate weekly.
  • Bug fixes and enhanced security: menu UI cleanup, save-corruption fixes from late 25.11.x reports, and patched exploits in the Engineering Wrench build panel.
  • Performance: the engine carries over 120 FPS support from 25.11.17 plus Google Play PC controller mapping with adjustable button opacity.

Season 2 remains on the roadmap with a switch from 4 perks per tier to 5 per tier and new side quests, although Lunarite Studio has not committed to a date.

Wasteland Story MOD APK features

The MOD build of Wasteland Story strips out the two grind walls that slow most builds: Cola (the premium currency sold through real-money packages from $1.99 to $19.99) and Scrap farming through the Infamy perk’s 60-second cooldown. The goal is letting you experiment with all nine Special Weapons, full perk respecs, and every companion package without parking 40 hours into resource grinding before the build comes online.

Unlimited Cola

Cola stays maxed at 9999 instead of needing IAP packs ($1.99 to $19.99 each) or the slow daily reward trickle from the Cola Shop. You can buy the Man’s Best Friend package from wave 1 to summon Doggy alongside a second companion, unlock cosmetic skins, and grab the Golden Scrap Pouch added in the 24.08.26 Summer Update. Useful especially for double-companion builds that pair Doggy’s item drops with Mando’s heal/dispel kit during long Nightmare runs.

Unlimited Scraps and crafting resources

Scrap stays capped at maximum instead of relying on the Infamy perk’s 5000-cap-per-kill on a 60-second cooldown, or scavenging humanoid corpses across Nevada zones. You can craft every Special Weapon blueprint (Zombinator, Proton Gun, Mini Nuke) the instant you disassemble its first drop, attach the full 5 components to a gun or 10 to armor immediately, and re-roll prefixes on rare gear without saving up. Most useful when prepping a build for Ascendancy farm runs that need crafted gear over RNG drops.

All Special Weapons and blueprints unlocked

The nine Special Weapons (Ghost Blade, Icicle Dagger, Lilith’s Bow, Mace of Malac, Medieval Sword, Mini Nuke, The Devil’s Revolver, Proton Gun, Zombinator) and their blueprints unlock from character creation instead of waiting on the 5% drop rate. This skips the typical 10-20 hours of farming required to get a Proton Gun for undead boss runs, or stacking enough Icicle Dagger procs (10% freeze chance, 6-second cooldown) to test a freeze-build through the White Horse Tribe arcs.

No forced ads and Cola Shop ads removed

The stock APK already keeps ads optional, but the Cola Shop pop-up that appears every time you open the menu (a known annoyance flagged in February 2026 Google Play reviews) is removed entirely in the MOD. Rewarded ads that grant cola codes, chest buffs, or revive tokens auto-credit without playing the ad spot. The save-game integration with Google Play Games stays intact, so cloud saves still sync between sessions.

One-hit kill on standard enemies (optional toggle)

For Nightmare and Ascendancy grinding, the MOD’s combat toggle drops regular Humanoid, Mutant, and Machine enemies in one hit, while bosses and Uber-class enemies still scale normally (so Souls farming via the Harvester enchant on bosses keeps its x3 multiplier intact). This is the build aimed at players running pure XP grind on the Genius trait to chase the level-100 perk cap without spending hours per Nightmare cycle on trash mob clearing.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Wasteland Story MOD APK safe to install on Android?

The MOD build is scanned and packed with anti-ban to keep the save file from triggering Google Play Protect flags. As a safety measure, install the MOD on a fresh save or back up your current cloud save first, since rolling back from a modded save to a stock save can cause the validation checks added in the 26.01.28 bug-fix patch to wipe progress.

Will the MOD version sync my progress with Google Play cloud saves?

Cloud save integration through Google Play Games stays intact in the MOD, so saves still sync between devices. However, swapping back and forth between the stock APK and the MOD APK on the same Google account can corrupt the save (a known issue raised in early 2026 reviews after the 25.11.17 rework). Keep one account for the MOD and a separate Google profile for the stock build.

What are the minimum Android requirements for Wasteland Story?

Wasteland Story runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) and above, needs at least 200 MB of free storage (the install itself is around 895 MB after first-launch downloads), and a minimum of 1 GB of RAM. For the 120 FPS mode added in 25.11.17, Lunarite Studio recommends devices with 2 GB of RAM or higher. Google Play PC support also works with custom button mapping.

Does Wasteland Story have offline mode?

Yes. Wasteland Story is an offline single-player RPG. The main story episodes, Nightmare, Ascendancy, Hidden Boss Raids, and Challenger Mode all run without a network connection. The only features that require online are the Awakening Leaderboard rankings, the League System placements introduced in 25.11.17, and Google Play cloud save sync for cross-device progress.

When is Wasteland Story Season 2 launching?

Season 2 was originally planned for late 2023 but has been delayed multiple times, with Lunarite Studio confirming on the official Discord that it remains in active development. The expansion is set to move perks from 4 per tier to 5 per tier across all 18 tiers, add new NPCs and side quests, and continue the main story arc beyond the current episodic content closing point. No firm release date has been announced as of version 26.01.28.
